FAT CAT CAFE

REBRANDING DESIGN

Coffee Shop – based in
Dublin – Ireland.

ABOUT

Fat Cat Café is a cosy coffee shop in Dublin that had been using a simple logo since its opening in 2021, without a defined visual identity. When they approached me, their main goal was to develop a refreshed brand that truly represented the café, something more authentic, trustworthy, and visually engaging.

The central idea behind the redesign was to create a mascot that embodied the café’s name, a cat that was both chubby and adorable, while maintaining some of the existing visual shapes to ensure continuity with their original identity. The new mascot became a relatable and charming symbol that resonates with customers, adding warmth and personality to the brand.

Beyond the visual update, the rebrand opened new business opportunities. By developing a versatile brand system, the café was able to expand into merchandise such as personalised mugs, tote bags, and T-shirts. This not only strengthened brand recognition but also created an additional source of income, helping the business grow beyond its physical café space.

CHALLENG

The main challenge in this project was to reimagine an existing brand while preserving its original charm and recognisability. The café already had a loyal customer base, so it was essential to create a design that felt familiar yet more refined and cohesive. My goal was to develop a mascot that embodied the essence of the name, a “fat cat” that was both cute and confident, while ensuring the overall identity conveyed professionalism and trust.

Another key challenge was to build a visual system that went beyond a simple logo, offering flexibility for future growth. This meant designing an identity that could easily adapt across merchandise and promotional materials, helping the café establish a stronger brand presence and generate new revenue streams.
